My reaction to it is that to sooner I can find Kaufman and punch him in the throat, the better. He turned swill into greatness by being a failure. That's *my* goddam trick. The world's good idea list is getting shorter, while the cliche list is getting longer. I can no longer entertain any of the following ideas in my work without being a hack: multiple personalities theft technology paranoia recursivity writer's block surveillance drug use The other option is to be a hack and get on with it, which is, in my opinion, what Adaptation was about. I noticed that I was laughing at parts that nobody else seemed to think were funny. This made me feel like one of the "intelligentsia." I love it when a movie helps me stroke my own ego, especially if I'm seeing it alone.
