The Explanation

I am quite sure that
while I slept some
people came and replaced
my eyes with grainy round
tepid grey rocks.
They put brittle sticks
where my bones were and
filled my skin with sand.
They took my ears too,
and left chirping birds,
looking out my ear-holes.
In lieu of a nose they left
a snake's head.

For my mouth,
a knothole.

For my brain,
a loaf of bread.

They took my mirror
away and told my friends
to act casual.

Bang! I awoke and
began this day.
